Made Visible – Dressed for the Occasion

Does choosing to be patient when you’re still irritated mean you’re just pretending?

We want the love of Jesus to shape our relationships, but our feelings don’t always cooperate. We can know we’re loved by God and still wonder what’s ours to do when a conversation gets difficult, someone interrupts our plans, or we’d rather defend ourselves than listen.

In this message from our Made Visible series, we explore Paul’s invitation to put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. What does that look like while we’re still growing? How can we make a real effort without slipping back into trying to earn God’s approval? And can we depend on the Holy Spirit while deliberately choosing how we respond?

Through practical examples and the hope of God’s continuing work in us, this message explores how the life we’ve received becomes something other people experience. There’s room to grow without putting our belonging on trial, and there are opportunities in our everyday relationships for the love of Jesus to become visible through the way we treat others.

  8. Which of the qualities Paul describes would someone close to you especially benefit from experiencing through you right now? What might that look like?
  9. How does asking, “How can this person experience Jesus’ love through me?” change your focus compared with asking, “How am I doing as a Christian?”
  10. As you consider Paul’s prayer in 1 Thessalonians 3:12, where would you like the Lord to grow your love, and what opportunity might you have this week to respond to Him?
